Titusville & Space View Park: a launch viewing guide
Titusville calls itself Space City, USA, and for good reason: the town sits right across the Indian River from Kennedy Space Center. Generations of people watched Apollo and Space Shuttle launches from this waterfront, and today it's still one of the best free places to watch a rocket on the Space Coast.
Space View Park
Address: 8 Broad Street, Titusville (at Indian River Avenue). The park looks east across the river with a direct line of sight toward pad LC-39A, about 12 miles away; LC-39B is slightly closer. Cape Canaveral pads like SLC-40 and SLC-41 are further, around 14 miles, but still very visible.
Beyond the view, the park is a little outdoor museum: memorials to the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs, with handprints and plaques honoring the astronauts. Arrive early and take a walk around while you wait.
Parking: free but first-come, first-served, and limited. There's a lot at the end of Broad Street near the Mercury memorial plus street parking along Indian River Avenue. For big launches, downtown parking can fill hours ahead.
Other Titusville waterfront spots
When Space View Park is packed, spread out. NASA lists these Titusville parks, north to south, as primary viewing locations:
- Marina Park โ 501 Marina Road (restrooms, parking)
- Sand Point Park โ 101 N. Washington Ave (restrooms, parking)
- Manzo Park โ 3335 S. Washington Ave / US-1
- Rotary Riverfront Park โ 4141 S. Washington Ave / US-1
- Kennedy Point Park โ 4915 S. Washington Ave / US-1
The Max Brewer Bridge causeway (SR-406, heading toward Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge) offers shoreline areas with wide-open views โ park only in legal areas and never stop on the bridge.
Which launches are best from Titusville?
Titusville shines for Kennedy Space Center launches from 39A and 39B โ crewed missions, Falcon Heavy and NASA's Artemis flights. For Cape pads further south, Titusville is still great, though Port Canaveral is closer. Check any launch's pad on its LaunchTrip page, and compare spots in our viewing spots guide.
Local tips
- Bring a chair and binoculars โ at 12 miles, binoculars make the rocket on the pad pop.
- Expect traffic after launch. US-1 and the routes back to I-95 jam up; grab dinner downtown and let it clear.
- Mosquitoes are real on the river at dusk. Bug spray is not optional.
- Watch the webcast on your phone for the countdown, since there's no guaranteed public audio.
- Combine with nearby attractions: the American Space Museum in downtown Titusville and the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex make a full space weekend.
